Tell en-Naṣbeh's Contributions to Understanding Iron Age Water Systems

Other Titles

Abstract

Discussion of how the inhabitants of Tell en-Nasbeh manipulated (channeled and stored) their available water resources. Shows how the settlement's roads and gate system were aligned with drains that directed excess water outside of the massive inset-offset wall. Presents data related to the site's rock-cut cisterns including estimates of capacities. The large size of the cisterns suggests that they were fed mainly by rain runoff from roos and streets. Not every dwelling had a cistern, suggesting that perhaps single cisterns were shared by several households.
