Abstract
A fifteen year old female spayed English Springer Spaniel presented through Cornell University's Small Animal Emergency service for vomiting, weight loss and anorexia. The patient had a four month history of vomiting, decreased appetite, weight loss, occasional soft stool and progressive weakness. Four days prior to presentation the frequency of vomiting had increased to ten times daily and she became anorexic. She was seen by multiple veterinarians and was currently on this list of medications: maropitant, metoclopramide, metronidazole, omeprazole and simethicone. Approximately four years ago the patient had two episodes of idiopathic vestibular disease which resulted in a chronic left sided head tilt. Thoracic and abdominal radio graphs were performed upon presentation. On thoracic radio graphs a moderate distention of the intra thoracic portion of the esophagus was visualized and on abdominal radiographs diffuse gas distended stomach and intestines were evident. This paper will describe clinical findings, diagnostics and treatment in a patient with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
