Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide the small animal practitioner or cat fancier with an introduction to the genetics of feline coat color. It is assumed that the reader has a basic understanding of simple Mendelian genetics. Various coat colors and patterns are discussed including tabbies, solid colors, Burmese, Siamese, tortoiseshells, shaded and tipped colors. There is also a discussion on the genetics of coat length and texture.
