dc.description.abstract | Tearing and modification obtains the ssolution of a linear system synthetically by first solving a slightly different ("torn") system and then modifying that solution. We show that single-element tearing of symmetric systems is rarely advantageous when the modified system is solved by elimination, and we classify those systems for which it is advantageous. | en_US |
