Abstract
Since the discovery of the European chafer,
Amphimallon majalis (Razoumowsky), in Newark
(Wayne County), New York during 1940, this serious
insect pest of lawns has spread to many areas of the
State (Fig. 1). Isolated infestations occur in the
adjoining and nearby states of Connecticut, Massachusetts,
New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Rhode
Island. It is present also in the Canadian province of
Ontario along the Niagara frontier.
