Perspectives on agricultural biotechnology (NRAES 144 - FRONT MATTER ONLY)
Natural Resource Agriculture and Engineering Service (NRAES)
In January 2001, a conference titled "Biotechnology: Progress or Problem? A Conference for Developing Community Leaders" was held in Binghamton, New York, to explore leadership challenges related to agricultural biotechnology. These proceedings include papers for fourteen of the nineteen conference presentations and summaries of pre-conference and participant surveys. The papers provide an overview of select issues related to agricultural biotechnology. The objectives of the conference were to: Gain a working knowledge of biotechnology, related issues, and ethical challenges; Explore communication and decision-making processes; Enable participants to make personal decisions and communicate with others who hold different perspectives and values; Expand leadership skills; Build networks among diverse interests in the Northeast. These proceedings provide a basis for individuals or groups to explore their concerns about agricultural biotechnology. Groups can review the papers, explore the issues, and develop a unique list of concerns. Alternatively, groups or individuals can review the one hundred twenty discussion topics in appendix 4 (page 171), categorize them into common themes, and develop their own discussion topics. It is an exercise that encourages in-depth thought on the issues. DUE TO OUSTANDING COPYRIGHT ISSUES OR CLEARLY IDENTIFIED OUT-OF-DATE PRACTICES (E.G. SAFETY CONCERNS), ONLY THE FRONT MATTER (E.G. COVER, ToC, ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, ETC) ARE PROVIDED HERE AT THIS TIME. Print copies of this item can be found at libraries listed here: www.worldcat.org/oclc/46769490
This 192 page publication (NRAES-144) was originally published by the Natural Resource, Agriculture, and Engineering Service (NRAES, previously known as the Northeast Regional Agricultural Engineering Service), a multi-university program in the Northeast US disbanded in 2011. Plant and Life Sciences Publishing (PALS) was subsequently formed to manage the NRAES catalog. Ceasing operations in 2018, PALS was a program of the Department of Horticulture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University. PALS assisted university faculty in publishing, marketing and distributing books for small farmers, gardeners, land owners, workshops, college courses, and consumers.
