Simultaneously addressing food security and global sustainability challenges: A summary of Jonathan Foley’s verbal presentation

Author
Eaglesham, Allan
Abstract
The magnitude of the challenge in doubling food production equals all of the six previous efforts in doubling food production in human history. Six contributory approaches from a global-scale perspective are proposed: Slowing the rate of agricultural land expansion into sensitive ecosystems, closing the agricultural yield gaps, raising crop-yield ceilings, improving the efficiency of environmental resource use, and diet modification.
