Abstract

Maintaining independence is important to most older adults, and design modifications in a kitchen can help achieve this. The primary recommendations include the overall kitchen plan, cabinetry and counters, walls, floors, doors, and windows, and plumbing, heating, electrical requirements, and minor modifications for a safer, more useful environment.
