Abstract

Memorial Statement for Professor Stephen James Roberts, D.V.M. (1915-2005) who was Associate Professor (1942) and Professor (1946) in the Department of Large Animal Medicine, Obstetrics and Surgery at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. He also served as Department Chairman (1965-1966 and 1969-1972). Professor Roberts "established himself as a leading figure in domestic animal reproduction" and authored over 150 scientific articles. Dr. Roberts wrote what remains the most comprehensive textbook on veterinary reproduction: "Veterinary Obstetrics and Genital Diseases" issued in three editions (1956, 1971 and 1986). He "played a major role in the establishment of the Cornell dairy cow mastitis control program" and served as the coach for the Cornell polo team for 25 years. The memorial statements contained herein were prepared by the Office of the Dean of the University Faculty of Cornell University to honor its faculty for their service to the university.
