Abstract
Memorial Statement for Professor Herbert Lester Gilman, D.V.M., M.S., Ph.D. (1895-1982) who was Assistant Professor (1922) of Research, Professor (1938) of Research, and Professor (1940) of Bacteriology at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine. In his laboratory work and collaborations, "Dr. Gilman controlled the accuracy of the State laboratories for the blood testing of cattle for brucellosis and manufactured the official antigen for New York State. "During his professional career, Dr. Gilman investigated most of the reproductive diseases of cattle and published over sixty papers bearing on this work. He is credited with much of the pioneering work on brucellosis, vibriosis, and trichomoniasis." The memorial statements contained herein were prepared by the Office of the Dean of the University Faculty of Cornell University to honor its faculty for their service to the university.
