For me, the central challenge in the creative process is to discover ways to communicate using the idiom of our particular place and time. No work of art can live outside a given context if it is to engage with its intended viewers. This understanding leads me to use images that are accessible and familiar - from popular films, television, and professional sports -- as the building blocks for my work. Similarly, I am drawn to the use of video, photography and computer editing processes, whose inherent nature as mediums of mass image reproduction and information distribution suggest a grammar of repetition, layering, simulation and non-linear editing fully in line with the modes in which we live and think today.
