Abstract

Proceedings of a Farmer/Scientist Conf. held Dec. 6 and 7, 1998, by the Natural Resource, Ag., and Engineering Service, Coop. Ext. The papers are arranged by theme: the effects of plant health and soil health on susceptibility to pests; putting biological control to work; strategies and tactics currently used by organic farmers; small group sessions by crop or insect pest: corn and sweet corn, cabbage family -- specifically flea beetles, potato leafhopper, cucurbit crops (squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, melons), solanaceous crops (potatoes, tomatoes, pepper, eggplant), tarnished plant bug, and beans and Mexican bean beetle; where do we go from here?; and areas needing additional study. This 84 page publication (NRAES-138) was originally published by the Natural Resource, Agriculture, and Engineering Service (NRAES, previously known as the Northeast Regional Agricultural Engineering Service), a multi-university program in the Northeast US disbanded in 2011. Plant and Life Sciences Publishing (PALS) was subsequently formed to manage the NRAES catalog. Ceasing operations in 2018, PALS was a program of the Department of Horticulture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University. PALS assisted university faculty in publishing, marketing and distributing books for small farmers, gardeners, land owners, workshops, college courses, and consumers.
