Two, 9-year-old, male castrated, Sealyham Terriers (litter- and house-mates), were evaluated for severe, generalized pruritus. Upon clinical examination, both cases had crusting, scaling, and erythema present at the hocks and pinnal margins. Case 1 also had lesions at the elbows, dorsum, and periocularly. Skin scrapes were negative for mites and both dogs had positive pinnal-pedal reflexes. Both cases were presumptively diagnosed with scabies, and were started on spot-on selamectin. Three weeks later, the owner had been diagnosed with scabies, and Case 1 was positive on skin scraping for scabies. Both cases were started on weekly lime sulfur dips, and switched to monthly spot-on fipronil, a treatment that failed by 17 weeks later. Having failed all previous topical therapies, both cases were started on oral ivermectin, as well as Johnson’s Baby shampoo treatments. Both cases improved, and no re-infestations had occurred at the time of publication.
