Abstract

This fact sheet describes the evidence of whether the insecticide lindane (gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane) affects the risk of breast cancer and other cancers. This includes information on its use in agriculture and in anti-lice shampoo, how federal agencies regulate this pesticide, who may be exposed, a summary of the studies that have evaluated its cancer risk, where more research is needed, and how to minimize exposure to lindane.
