Abstract

The effects of the most important coat color genes in horses are reviewed. Teh emphasis is on basic coat colors and patterns and not on the inheritance of markings. White, grey, black, bay, brown, chestnut, palomino, cremello, perlino, buckskin, dun, red dun, grullo, roan, tobiano, overo and silver dapple coat colors are discussed.
