Comar, Cyril L.
Memorial Statement for Professor Cyril L. Comar, Ph.D. (1914-1979) who was appointed Professor (1957) and Director of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology in the Department of Physiology, Chairman (1960) of the newly created Department of Physical Biology, and Professor Emeritus (1975) at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine. During his career, Professor Comar contributed knowledge on the application of radioisotope tracers in biological research, mineral metabolism, particularly the physiological aspects of calcium and phosphorus as well as transfer of calcium and strontium in the biosphere, and peaceful uses of atomic energy. He was a frequent consultant for various agencies, established a nationally recognized teaching and research program in radiation biology, and published several books and over 200 scientific articles. The memorial statements contained herein were prepared by the Office of the Dean of the University Faculty of Cornell University to honor its faculty for their service to the university.
