Description
A winner of the Knight Award for Writing Exercises and Handouts, this work originates from English 1168, Cultural Studies: The Figure of the Badass in Literature and Film. "Opening Up" asks students to color code sentences in their introductory paragraphs to correspond with topic sentences of the essay's body paragraphs. In class, students peer review each other's work, testing the coordination of the introduction to the topic sentences. Students thus discover how well their introductions act as road maps to their essays. 9 page pdf
