Abstract

This news item is about: With a new $1.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Cornell faculty have embarked on a quest using innovative methods to discover new drugs against tuberculosis (TB), the leading cause of death from bacterial infection. Because TB is an orphan disease chiefly afflicting people in developing countries and offering too poor prospects for profits to interest most drug developers, this project represents one of the few rays of hope against an epidemic that grows more untreatable by the day.
