Abstract

The fate of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) in anaerobic digestion systems and also in composting systems is reviewed. The effect of these manure treatment systems on ARB and their associated antibiotic resistance genes is less predictable than their impact on antibiotic residuals in dairy manure and there is opportunity for further research.
