Abstract

A two year old Standardbred gelding was referred to Cornell’s Equine Hospital following a post-castration evisceration. Earlier in the day the referring veterinarian performed an open castration with ligation on the horse at his hospital. Later, when being loaded on a trailer, the horse started to kick violently. The horse was taken off the trailer and placed in a stall which he attempted to jump out of and got cast. At this time approximately three inches of bowel could be seen exiting the left incision which prompted immediate referral to Cornell.
