Abstract

Philadelphia middle school students participated in a forestry education program that involved activities in the classroom, an urban forest, and a demonstration forest. A better understand- ing of forest stewardship, as evidenced by students’ increased knowledge and shifting atti- tudes, was the cumulative effect, but activities and discussions in the demonstration forest proved the most effective educational method for fostering positive attitudes toward forestry.
