Abstract

James T. Siegel considers the changing perceptions of Aceh and the Acehnese since the disastrous tsunami struck North Sumatra in December 2004. Previously ignored as victims of the Indonesian military, now the Acehnese are seen through a humanitarian, rather than political, lens, as victims of the wave.
