Abstract
Schistosomus reflexus is the most common congenital birth defect that results in dystocia in cattle, accounting for up to 1.5% of dystocias overall 1. It is important to quickly and accurately differentiate a schistosomus calf from other dystocias. This is generally easily determined based on vaginal examination, or simple visual inspection of the dam at presentation. This report will detail a case of a schistosomus reflexus calf that resulted in a dystocia in a second parity Holstein cow. Clinical signs, differential diagnoses, and treatment options will be discussed as well as the possible etiology of the congenital malformation.
