Traumatic hemoperitoneum in a 7 year old Akita dog

Abstract
This report discusses a case of traumatic hemoperitoneum in a dog. The patient is a seven year old female spayed Akita who was referred to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals’ Emergency Service for possible hemoperitoneum following blunt trauma. The diagnosis, management and prognosis for traumatic hemoabdomen are considered. Particular attention is paid to the topics of abdominal focused assessment using sonography for trauma and blood transfusions to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of hemoperitoneum.
