Abstract

This short paper discusses on-farm experimentation from a unique perspective. Through the lens of research projects funded by the Food Agility Co-operative Research Centre and Diary Food Safety Victoria, arguments are developed to suggest that digital technology is an enabler of knowledge creation while it is people who are the drivers of innovation. It is suggested that a cultural change is taking place in Australia with in- vestment in on-farm experimentation and science at-scale involving a greater diversity stakeholders than ever before. This sharing of knowledge and co-creation of science is a relatively new approach to research and is explained in four broad categories: on- farm optimisation, scientific infrastructure, sharing farm data and food safety.
