Abstract

This news item is about: Former Baker Institute student Lt. Cmdr. Danielle Buttke DVM ’09/PhD ’10 is this year's recipient of the James H. Steele Veterinary Public Health Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Once a student in Alex Travis's lab, Buttke earned her DVM and Ph.D. in 2010. Today Buttke serves as a U.S. Public Health Service officer assigned to the National Parks Service (NPS) Biological Resource Management Division, Wildlife Health Branch. In her role as the NPS One Health coordinator, Buttke was instrumental in tamping down an outbreak of hantavirus at Yosemite National Park in 2012.
