Abstract

Examination of the problems and possible solutions for Africa, with focus on sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), a region where multiple natural and man-made disasters generate horrifying conditions. This paper attempts first to highlight the challenges facing SSA, then show a slight ray of hope with a few examples of remarkable successes in agriculture and the potential—and concerns—regarding agricultural biotechnology.
