Abstract
A 9 year old Thoroughbred mare presented to the Large Animal Soft tissue service for evaluation of a three week history of dysphagia, coughing and nasal discharge. She was diagnosed via endoscopy with guttural pouch mycosis. The mare underwent balloon catheterization of her right internal carotid artery to prevent hemorrhage. After surgery, she exhibited clinical signs associated with cranial nerves VII, VIII, IX and X, including facial nerve paralysis, ataxia, and dysphagia. She was hospitalized and treated supportively for one week post-surgery.
