The concept of the lost house, or la casa perdida, is one of the central topics of Colombian literature and artistic creations, according to Colombian poet William Ospina. For the first part of my dissertation, and based on this concept, I created my version of a lost house, a project titled our house is the noise that we make: nuestra casa está hecha de canciones. This work took the form of a musical album, a doll house, and a book: campesina and conventual-inspired protest music in a Fluxus package. This piece was performed in March 2026 at Cornell University. In the second part of my dissertation, I placed all elements of this project in their historical contexts: I situated the doll house in the context of the feminist art tradition in the US through Womanhouse, a collective creation spearheaded by Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro; the songs of the album as drawing elements from Colombian protest and campesina music, specifically from Jorge Velosa and other artists of música carranguera; and the book as a combination of Fluxus elements as well as the conceptual art and craft practices of Cecilia Vicuña. All elements converged in a project where, based on a concept by Brian Eno and Bette A., art is a way of playing.
