Abstract

Memorial Statement for Professor Henry Asmus (1875-1939) who was Instructor (1913-1914) and Assistant Professor (1914-1939) of horseshoeing (farriery) at the New York State Veterinary College from 1913 to 1939. He was a noted expert on corrective shoeing, a master craftsman with iron, and "the last professor of Farriery in the veterinary colleges of America." In addition to veterinary students, he taught farriery students and advised farmers on the proper care of their horses' hoofs in the Cornell School for Horseshoers established in 1908. He also lectured and demonstrated widely at meetings and conferences as "an outstanding authority in a unique field." The memorial statements contained herein were prepared by the Office of the Dean of the University Faculty of Cornell University to honor its faculty for their service to the university.
