Abstract
A 2.5-day-old male embryo transfer calf presented to Cornell's Internal Medicine Service in recumbency with a history of respiratory distress since birth and scours. Diagnosis of a ventricular septa! defect and atrial septa! defect or a patent foramen ovale was made based on clinical presentation, ultrasonographic examination, and a cardiology consultation consisting of echocardiography with Doppler interrogation and contrast echocardiography (bubble study). These diagnoses were confirmed at necropsy. This paper will address the presentation, diagnosis and characterization of these cardiac congenital abnormalities in this case, and the etiology of these lesions.
