Item IXP China: Current Challenges, Future OpportunitiesMarquis, Christopher (2014-06)Item Creating Shared Value: Entrepreneurial and Corporate Models for a Changing EconomyMarquis, ChristopherThis course is for future business leaders - both entrepreneurs and executives - as they navigate a business environment that increasingly emphasizes the simultaneous creation of business and social value. The course will help students develop a more strategic understanding of topics such as social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility and in both their design and implementation stages. Such shared value business strategies include engaging customers through cause marketing, motivating employees through socially-aware company cultures, advantageously modifying a company's competitive landscape, and re-engineering internal systems to turn responsible corporate policy into action. Future leaders of nonprofit and public entities who will regularly interact with business leaders will also find the course valuable.Item HBS 4880 Course Syllabus - Spring 2013Marquis, Christopher (2013)This course covers classical and key contemporary works in organization theory and surveys the main paradigms that are now active in the field. Organization theory draws on disciplinary roots in (alphabetically) economics, political science, psychology, and sociology to explain the origins, persistence, and disappearance of the institutional structures that order economic life (organizations, firms, networks, markets, and others). We will read some of the classic statements of the major approaches and trace the history of ideas as the field has developed up to the present. As the field is broad and deep in many spots, and I include a list of recommended further readings for each topic area.
