DEPARTMENT OE MECHANICS. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Troy, N.Y. March 14, 1908 Theodore Cooper Esq, 35 Broadway, New York, Dear Sir:- You may remember my having consulted with you about the remodeling of the old Burr- Truss existing between Waterford and Lansingburg.I believe that I made a visit to your office for that purpose some time in October of 1900. Inasmuch as the work was done according to the plan outlined, together with your suggestions, and the work has been completed for about a month, it occurs to me that you might be interested to know that it was done and so far seems to meet all the requirements of the heavy traffic put upon it. There were of course a good many problems to solve during the course of the work, involving some changes from the original plan as contemplated, although nothing radical except the placing of the new arch ribs on top of the old ones through out and the substitution of Georgia Pine for White Pine for the new arch ribs. In addition to the auxiliary chords suggested by you we filled in the space between the posts and these auxiliary chords solid with the old overhead beams that hao been removed from the bridge, thus preventing any tendency for the posts to bend and break where the diagonals intersect them. Hoping that this will find you well , and with kindest regards, I am Yours truly, T.R. Lawson
