L. M. HAUPT, A.M., C.E., Professor of Civil Engineering. JNO. S. ELLIOTT, B.S., C.E., Instructor in Civil Engineering. Course of Civil Engineering, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA. Phildelphia, Nov. 19, 1888 Theodore Cooper, CE Dear Sir: In reply to your favor of 17 it gives me pleasure to say that the notice and abstract of my paper are found in Proc. Engrs Club of Phila Vol III #3, p 188. and the paper itself is now and article contributed to the Encyclopedia Americana pub by Hubbard Bros. Phila - I believe it is copyrighted but I would have no objections personally to you making any extracts - It is historical and I think representative and covers some 40-50 pp - fully illustrated - I may have tracings on hand yet if required and as they are taken from well known prints - they would, I think be public property. The Chevallier work you ought to examine for the beauty and the clearness of the plates. Very truly yours, L.M. Haupt
