From the Astronomer's Telegram
  • As mentioned in the 2024 April edition of this Newsletter, observatories around the world continue to observe FRB 20240114A since its discovery by CHIME/FRB (ATel 16420). The redshift of the previously identified host galaxy has now been measured to be z=0.13 (ATel 16613). Multiple bursts have been detected at Effelsberg, in some cases extending all the way up to 6.0 GHz (ATel 16620). There is also another claim of a potential gamma ray excess and flare with archival Fermi LAT data (ATel 16630; but see discussion in the previous edition of the Newsletter and ATel 16602).
Meetings and conference news

  • In the April 2024 edition of this Newsletter we mentioned the Seventeenth Marcel Grossmann meeting being held in Pescara, Italy, on 7-12 July 2024. In addition to the "Galactic and extragalactic magnetars" parallel session, there will also be a parallel session on Fast Radio Bursts! But hurry, the abstract submission deadline is quickly approaching: May 31, 2024.
  • RFI 2024 is being held in Bariloche, Argentina on October 14-18, 2024. Abstract deadline is July 1, 2024.
